SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – In response to neighborhood quality-of-life issues with loud vehicles, the Springfield Police Department has launched a new “Hear Something, Say Something” campaign to give residents a clear and simple way to report vehicles creating excessive noise in violation of Springfield City Code Sec. 78-116. The campaign aims to reduce disruptive vehicle noise in neighborhoods and along major corridors by empowering the community to submit usable evidence to hold vehicle owners responsible for the violation.
The reporting tool is now available at HearSomethingSGF.com, where residents can submit a complaint form along with a video that clearly captures the excessive noise and the vehicle’s full license plate. The ordinance allows the police department to take administrative enforcement action, which includes issuing a $100 civil penalty, based on video evidence submitted by a citizen. Civil penalty notifications are issued to vehicle owners by mail.
“We know that excessively loud vehicles is a quality-of-life issue that is a top frustration for many Springfield residents, especially in areas with late-night activity,” Chief Paul Williams said. “This campaign gives our community a direct role in holding vehicle owners accountable.”
To be considered for review, complaint submissions must include:
- The date, time and location of the violation
- A video with clear audio of the excessive noise
- The complete license plate must be visible and legible
“Excessively loud vehicles have been a chronic issue in all our neighborhoods,” Neighborhood Advisory Council Chair Becky Volz said. “Our neighbors have been asking for this to be addressed, and I am really glad to see this campaign being launched.”
