Springfield Police Department – Right to Carry, Duty to Secure

The Springfield Police Department recenly announced they are teaming with with Shaquille O’Neal for the ‘Right to Carry, Duty to Secure’ effort.

Shaquille O’Neal, the Springfield Police Department, and police departments across the country are teaming up to ask all legal gun owners to commit to the Right to Carry, Duty to Secure effort to encourage the safe storage of personal firearms.

The Right to Carry, Duty to Secure effort is in partnership with the Community Partnership of the Ozarks’ Gun Safety Collaborative.

According to a news release, Each year nationwide, approximately 200,000 guns are stolen in private theft incidents. The leading source for stolen guns is from vehicles. Since 2020, 876 handguns have been stolen from vehicles in Springfield, including 88 in 2024. That’s why this PSA is a “slam dunk” for families across America. Take it from Shaq, “You may have a right to carry, but you have a duty to secure your firearms.”
