Applications for the 2024 Citizens Police Academy are NOW OPEN!
According to the Springfield, MO Police Department, the curriculum covers a variety of topics such as SPD policies, organizational structure, investigative processes, and police tactics. This is an opportunity for students to meet with different officers at the Springfield Police Department and ask questions about various topics. During the program, students will see how the Springfield Police Department operates and the reasons behind it. Beyond the 30 hours of instruction, students will have the opportunity to tour Police Headquarters, the Calaboose, and the Firing Range.
The Springfield, MO Police Department is offering the 2024 Citizens Police Academy with “the goal is to give citizens a better understanding of how the police department functions and an inside look at the challenges officers face when working to serve the community.”
Applicants must meet the following prerequisites to be eligible for the 2024 Citizens Police Academy.
- Must be Springfield, Missouri resident
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have no felonies
- Must pass a basic background investigation
The Citizens Police Academy offers 30 hours of instruction over a ten-week period. During those ten weeks, the class meets every Tuesday from 6 p.m.to 9 p.m. The academy traditionally occurs in the fall but is subject to an additional class in the spring.
