Missouri State University Announces 12th President

After Missouri State University’s nationwide search for a new president, the university has announced, Dr. Richard “Biff” Williams, as the 12th president of Missouri State University.

According to a news release from Missouri State University, “Williams has 25 years of leadership experience in higher education. He has served as a faculty member, dean, provost and, most recently, president.

Williams was president of Utah Tech University (previously Dixie State University) from 2014 through early 2024. During his tenure, he expanded the university’s footprint – increasing enrollment by more than 40% and adding more than 200 academic programs.

He also guided the university through a name rebranding and a move to Division I athletics.”

Current Missouri State University President, Clif Smart, announced in September 2023 that he will be retiring after 13 years as president in the summer of 2024.

Dr. Williams Missouri State University presidency will begin July 1st, 2024.
