There are only a couple more weeks until school is back in session around the Ozarks. The back-to-school aisles are over crowded at many stores and this weekend will definitely not be the exception, as it is tax free weekend.
Missouri’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is THIS WEEKEND, beginning Friday, August 4th, and running through Sunday, August 6th.
The 2023 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday exempts all state and local sales or use tax taxes during the exemption period on qualifying items. According to the Missouri Department of Revenue, during prior years only state and some local sales and use taxes were exempt, Senate Bill 153 changed this by exempting all local sales and use tax on qualifying items.
Purchases that qualify for tax exemptions include the following…
- School supplies (e.g. backpacks, writing utensils and notebooks) costing up to $50 per purchase
- Clothing and footwear that costs $100 or less
- Most personal computers and computer accessories that are less than $1,500
