“We are happy to share with you some exciting news. In 2023, Community Partnership of the Ozarks, in collaboration with the NAACP of Springfield, will offer the first city-wide Juneteenth weekend festival! As Springfield continues to strive towards equity and inclusion for the BIPOC community, it is only fitting that we celebrate this important holiday to the best of our ability. Juneteenth 16-19, 2023.” – Springfield MO NAACP
The Juneteenth weekend festival or “We Are One” festival consists of multiple events throughout the weekend including a 5K Freedom Run and Walk, Freedom Parade, Farmers Market, live entertainment, music and dance, food and drinks, and more!
“Juneteenth – a combination of the words “June” and “19th” – is the primary holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Its date is tied to a speech informing the formerly enslaved black people of Texas that the Civil War was over and they were, therefore, free.” – U.S. News & World Report
