The City of Springfield has reached an agreement to purchase and become the new owners Hammons Field and the adjacent parking lots, from The John Q. Hammons Charitable Trust, if the City Council votes to approve the $12 million purchase agreement Monday, February 6th.
Additionally the lease agreement would be going through at least 2038 to keep the Springfield Cardinals put, in Springfield. Also included in the agreement is a commitment to fund $4 million in stadium improvements.
“We have the Double-A franchise of the most popular Major League team in the Midwest,” said Springfield Mayor Ken McClure. “They add a vibrancy, excitement and level of entertainment as well as foster a great degree of community pride.
