USPS gives tips for sending mail around the holidays

We know that theft is more apparent and active near the holidays. People steal packages right off of porches, in blue boxes, cars, etc.

It is important to be cautions in how you mail packages or items near the holiday season.

If you are going to use a blue box, do research to find out the time of collection in your area. The less time someone has the opportunity to steal your package, the better.

The U.S. Postal Service recommends handing your package directly to your postal carriers or dropping off your packed directly to the post office, to ensure your package or mail is safe and secure.

Stealing mail or packages is a federal offense, which could bring someone up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.

Be safe and keep these tips in mind when spreading holiday cheer and sending Christmas gifts this season.
